Inventions

Gadgets and gizmos…aren’t they great? But don’t you wonder if you could make a cool new invention? There are things that everyone want, that haven’t been created yet. You may think that in the future someone will decide to make something innovative and that will, but why not have it now? It starts with you, why don’t you build your own invention? Technology will help you, you can use programs. I code and I make new things on javascript. This is something to think about, something that I think about.

I am from…(poem)

I am from… Anish R.

I am from under the Ping-Pong table

from stashes of Trader Joe’s chocolate and Maggi

I am from a 2-story single family home

the burning incense

I am from the green belt

the apricot tree
whose branches
had no fruit that hung

I am from pizza Friday and yearly Sunnyvale trips

from Kajal and Anirban

I am from cheesy puns and mind bending riddles

and from daal chawl

I am from “Maybe later.” and “Are we there yet?”

and Listen to The River

I’m from California and India

but Chinese and Italian food

from Kali Das, the man who hurts himself

the billboards of mementos

pinned against the gallery walls

and hidden posters stashed in my closet

kept captive for myself

Austin Pow Wow

This was the essay I wrote for the Austin Pow Wow for Texas History. It was an extra credit assignment.

Austin Pow Wow Anish

At the Austin Pow Wow, we first went into the arena. It was filled with Natives Americans from many different tribes. The costumes people wore consisted of headdresses, tribal clothing, and make-up. Each of the natives had a number on a necklace. A ritual was happening, with some men beating on a drum and chanting.
A lady from the Air Force had sung the National Anthem. After that took place, this group of men sang the memorial song and another song. Someone from the San Antonio Pow Wow said a prayer short after. Everyone was standing up while these speeches were taking place.

While I was at the Austin Pow Wow, the flag ceremony (retiring of the colors) took place. During that, these two uniformed men with swords held them together to make an arch. A man in yellow I the front was kind of bouncing holding a brownish-orange flag, behind that a few holding the American flag, and other flag came walking through the arch.

I exited the building and saw many beautiful pieces of art. We walked around and admired the Indians work. The booths had drawings, dolls, necklaces, and more. There was one stall will these arrowheads on these leather strings with beads. I bought one thinking of how much time and effort it must have taken to make one. Each one had probably been made by hand.

Next to the art booths, there was a food court. There were these food trucks selling buffalo, hot dogs, and other Indian delicacies. I smelled lots of fresh meat and fried food. It looked like Indians loved this food just like the visitors. I wish I could have tasted some of food there.

The Austin Pow Wow was interesting experience; I had hoped I could have stayed there longer. I saw how their ceremonies were conducted, what they looked like, and their artwork.

Questions I had:
• Were these the Indians of only the Austin area?
• Are there many pure Indians ( ex: only Apaches)?
• Where do these Indians stay, do they have jobs or do they stay in reservations?

Pablo Picasso

“Everything you can imagine is real”- Pablo Picasso.
Picasso was an extraordinary artist, and I find this interesting. His paintings and sculptures convey abstract images. Does this mean he saw or envisioned things just like his art looked like? I don’t know, there are many debates about him. Comment what you think.

Refereeing

Goal! That’s my decision though because I am a referee for Westlake. I make $10 for every game I ref. I ref U7 and U8, which is like kind of teaching them the rules instead of making the most accurate choice, but that doesn’t mean I can do whatever. Sometimes coaches get upset with referees for no apparent reason, so you have to communicate with adults and children. I started doing this a couple weeks ago and have so far refereed 5 games. I hope to keep doing this as long as I can.

Programming

Programming doesn’t have to be about gaming  or trying to make 3D models. To start  with programming, you could just make a picture of outside. There is different languages for programming, the most popular language is java script, but there are more advanced ones like “C, C+,C++”. For using java script, usually the commands are built in to the website you are using. To make a simple shape, you need things like “fill”, “parameters”, “stroke”, and a few other codes. Pictures are basically  made from a programmer telling the computer what color they want each pixel to be. You can make games on java script, but “if statements” and “boolean expressions” come in to the picture. Unless you have done programming before and are you’re a master, you need some background information. A link that may help you is https://www.khanacademy.org/cs/programming.
