Reflection: Seventh Grade

When I first began arrived in August, I expected seventh grade to be easy. Just like sixth and fifth, seventh would be a breeze, at least that is how I imagined it. But I soon realized, you can’t just think your way through seventh grade. You have to spend your time studying for each class and pay close attention to things your teachers say. By October, my mind had gotten used to the amount of homework that I received each night. I had gotten used to the daily routine of having to study and doing work everyday. Eventually, I figure out how to manage my time wisely. In seventh grade, I learned: You have to work to get what you want. Things won’t be easy all the time. When things get tough, just push through and know you can make it through. I learned this when, I got a bad grade on my math test, and knew I could do better. I studied well the next couple of weeks, and aced my next quizzes. As the year comes to an end, I can’t wait till summer because seventh grade has prompted my creativity and imagination so much. If I had to do it again, I would not try to “wing” my tests. My advice to next year’s seventh graders: try your best and do what you are told.

Leadership

Here at WRMS, everyone at our school receives the same chance for leadership. Every student has the characteristics of a leader, but who will grab the opportunity?

WRMS provides many leadership programs, such as, NJHS, Student Council, and even sectional leaders in the Fine Arts programs. Although, I am not one of those students who are in every club possible, I do keep my self active in my school. I currently got inducted in NJHS, and it seems like something that will help me become more of a leader and risk taker. I did not apply to be in any other leadership programs, but I feel like it might be something I do in the near future.

If I were given the opportunity to be a student council representative, I would not take it. There is something about sharing others’ ideas that I don’t understand. I am more interested in sharing what I have to think individually rather than represent the people. It seems like that responsibility doesn’t belong to me, but the more outgoing students at our school. The leaders at WRMS are doing a great job guiding our school to greatness. Thank you Mr. Ramsey, facility and staff, including fellow peers.

My Favorite Poem

“There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.”

― Shel Silverstein, Where the Sidewalk Ends

This poem shows what childhood was like and perfectly depicts my memories.
I used to read all of Silverstein’s poems and books. This poem and The Giving Tree.

My Home

East of the Pacific Ocean and West of the Atlantic, 30.25° N, 97.75° W… Austin is the capitol of both Texas and live music.
Austin is an interesting place to live.

Mainly what makes my city interesting, Austin is never boring. This past week, we have had icy rain in the morning, and in the afternoon it was over 75 degrees. Oh my, it is never the same weather a day. The slogan of Austin is “Keep Austin Weird,!”, how can life be boring?

In addition, Austin has many events going on everyday. A couple of weeks ago, Austin had held a TedX Youth Event. It was a series of TED Talks, keeping Austin always changing.

In conclusion, Austin always makes things fun, no matter the inconsistency. Remember, If you are thinking of place to live…consider Austin.

Life Science

Dissections and demo labs. We have been doing dissections this chapter because we have been studying the cardiovascular system.
We even dissected a deer heart, it was about the size of two fists. Life science currently has been easy, but boring. I hope we do more interesting things in the future.

Topic: Mistakes are important

Many people say the best way to learn is to make mistakes. Mistakes aren’t failures, they facilitate learning. If mistakes facilitate learning, they mugs facilitate learning.

“A life spent making mistakes is not not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing,”- George Bernard Shaw. All those mistakes that George made lead him to receive not only the Nobel Prize, but a terrific life. No matter how many mistakes a person mistakes, it always leads them to a better life.

In additition, mistakes inform you on your weaknesses, so you can strengthen them. For instance, you have a project, but you procrastinate. You then figure out your weakness: waiting the last minute. You then know that you should be more organized with your time. I find this quite important for mistakes help me too. In conclusion, mistakes change your weaknesses to strengths.m

Therefore, creating mistakes can help you learn for the future and strengthen you in the presents you can never truly know your weakness until you make a mistake.

2014 Future City Regional Part 2

As my team had preformed, I felt as hopeful as I had been that whole competition. My father had told me, “Your team willmake to the second round.” We proceeded to a team lunch at Chipotles and quickly headed back to the university. Soon after, there was the special awards judging. With our luck, the motor system broke down and our whole team huddled behind the backdrop. We rushed to fix the broken system, but it didn’t budge. We had to talk for the judges, although we couldn’t show the system. We finally fixed the motor (replaced it). We had low hopes for our this section. Maybe..Just maybe…We could make it…

2014 Future City Regional

Saturday, 18th of January, 5:30 am, I woke up and a had queasy feeling in my stomach. My eyes opened fully as we headed to San Marcos. I had a feeling that day, a feeling that rose throughout the day, I was anxious. Anxious if we were going to D.C., anxious if we would place, anxious if we would get a special award.
The competition consists of 5 parts: Research Essay, City Narrative, Virtual City(SimCity), The Model, and a Presentation. We had a strong chance of making it to the second rounds, but to make it we would have to defeat the other teams from our scool. We would have to beat the team that went to Globals the previous year. I could only hope for the best though.
As the day progressed I knew our chance of advancing was slim, judging by our model we had a strong chance, but who knew what the judges would think. I would soon know the outcome of Future City…

Life Science

Currently in science, we are learning about body systems. The muscular. Skin, and skeletal systems are things we have gone over. We are going to have a test over them soon. We have just recently done a lab, it was chicken dissection. This is a link of the basic procedures we did. Cutting the skin of a chicken is actually quite hard, I had to have my teacher help me. I’m not sure I am looking to anymore dissections.
